再见,Aaron Swartz
Aaron Swartz was a brilliant computer programmer, internet activist, and innovator known for his advocacy for open access to information and the open-source movement. He made significant contributions to the development of internet technologies, including the specification of RSS and the design of the web.py framework. Swartz was also a co-founder of Reddit and contributed to Creative Commons.
He was committed to fighting against the enclosure of knowledge and promoting the free and fair use of information. Swartz’s pioneering work in social justice and political organization included his opposition to the 2011 anti-piracy legislation and the creation of the DemandProgress organization, which allowed Americans to voice their opinions on policies and protect their freedom of information.
Tragically, Swartz took his own life on January 11, 2013, while facing what many considered to be an overzealous prosecution by the U.S. federal government for allegedly downloading a large number of academic journal articles from JSTOR at MIT. He was facing a potential fine of millions of dollars and a maximum sentence of 35 years in prison. Many, including his family, believed that his suicide was a result of the excessive charges brought against him. After his death, the federal government dropped its case against him.
Swartz’s life and the tragic circumstances of his death have garnered widespread attention and discussion. His story is documented in the film “The Internet’s Own Boy,” and he has been posthumously recognized as an Innovator in the Internet Hall of Fame.
